After I graduated with a degree in Psychology from University of North Texas I moved from Texas to Los Angeles to New York to find the next exciting thing. When in New York, a friend who is a makeup artist for television, video and film invited me to assist her and learn the trade. There seemed to be a shortage of dependable, talented, balanced people in the field of production makeup and hair.
For two years I worked between Maryse Felix and a few Manhattan salons to perfect my style and speed. Like many New Yorkers I relocated to Los Angeles because the industry is thick with opportunities in every medium of production work. I have worked repeatedly in them all keying in both hair and makeup for television, commercials, music videos, short films, feature films, print work, celebrity clients, corporate videos, weddings and salons. I am also known specifically for high definition work, grooming, black hair, and makeup.
My philosophy is to make people feel comfortable with the look created by the director. I like natural, even when I have created a highly stylized look it will be soft, not harsh and distracting. Oh yeah, and I am fast!
It is difficult to define the highlight of my career because after 12 years there have been so many. Each year I set a goal which I meet. Year one it was to be invited to do makeup in a top salon in NYC. Year two was to have so many wedding clients that I could share the work. Year three was to start in production and see my work on television. Year four to key fashion shows and photo shoots. Year five to key television shows and see my name in the credits. Year six to have crew locators and agencies call me for jobs due to my reputation. Year seven to have so much production work I can pass jobs on to colleagues. Year eight key on a feature film. Year nine obtain a position on a network television show. Year ten to finish up my hours and get in IATSE 706. Year eleven to sharpen my special effects skills and become a Journeyman. Year twelve has just started, but I know what I will work toward.
